Just as membership in the Cousteau Society is more
than merely a subscription to the quarterly Calypso Log and bimonthly Cousteau
Kids, these publications are more than merely benefits of membership in the Society.
Calypso Log keeps readers abreast of
environmental successes and failures, reports on the Society's expeditions and activities,
and provides in-depth coverage of important issues. Society representatives distribute Calypso
Log to heighten public awareness of the need to preserve natural resources for future
generations, or to focus attention on the responsibilities of decision-makers at every
level to protect the complexities of the global ecosystem. Special issues that focus on
singular subjects, such as corals or marine mammals, serve as reference works for students
and teachers.

Cousteau
Kids is the Cousteau Society's
educational publication for children ages eight to twelve. Each 20-page bimonthly issue of
this colorful publication, formerly known as Dolphin Log, introduces the
brilliance, excitement and accessibility of the sea to young people everywhere with
stories, facts and activities. The philosophy of the magazine is to delight, instruct and
instill in children an awareness of the interconnectedness of all life on the Water
Planet. Feature Articles explore Nature and science around the world. The special Activity
Book issue published in July/August is an over-sized treasure chest of games, puzzles and
experiments designed to challenge, amuse and absorb young readers for hours!

Since the Cousteau Society first introduced
Cousteau in the Classroom, it has helped more than 2,700 classrooms
and over 111,000 elementary school students discover the delights of the Water Planet
through this award-winning children's magazine. For barely more than the cost of shipping,
sponsors can provide five issues of the educational, colorful and fun publication each
school year. Every child has his or her own copy to study and treasure. And now, each
issue of Cousteau Kids, formerly Dolphin Log, is accompanied by a Teaching
Guide to provide instructors with ideas for making the best possible use of this
innovative resource. (Click here
to check out the Teaching Guides.)
For a gift of $60, the Society delivers
enough copies of each issue of Cousteau Kids for one classroom of approximately 30
students. The donor can pick the school and classrooms to receive the gift, or the Society
will choose them, responding to requests from teachers eager for these outstanding
publications. Children receiving Cousteau Kids in this program study articles, play
educational games, develop reading skills and gradually discover that the ocean affects
their life no matter where they live, even if many miles from the nearest seashore. Five
times throughout the school year, the gift will enrich and delight young minds.
Or, for a gift of just $50, the Society will
provide one classroom of students with copies of the special issue Activity Book, crammed
with educational puzzles, games, experiments and crafts. For teachers, this is a terrific
way to introduce environmental facts and concepts with minimal preparation and maximum
fun. For the children, Cousteau Kids is their personal treasure chest of ocean
wonders, opening mind and soul to the complex and fragile Water Planet on which they live.
With great pride in the progress that Cousteau
in the Classroom has made since its beginning, the Cousteau Society hopes to
expand the program to thousands more students. Anyone is welcome to sponsor classrooms. To
